Groggy 3rds back to winning ways!

After suffering their first defeat of the season at home to Dinting the previous week, Old Glossop 3rds were looking to bounce back away to Tintwistle. With half the team looking rather weary due to the previous day and nights frolics, it was to take a big effort to leave victorious in our first away game of the season.

Tinny won the toss and elected to bowl so OG, having decided to change the usual opening partnership to freshen things up sent out Ethan and Tom hoping for a solid start. The track was unpredictable to say the least with most deliveries staying low but the odd one kicking up and taking the batsmen by surprise. It was such a delivery that saw Tom off, caught behind for 11, disappointing for young Mr Lane, especially after his superb 62 not out the previous week.

Zaeem joined Ethan at the crease and the boys made steady progress, Ethan departed on 46 off 80 balls with 5 fours, fully justifying the decision to open with him. Seth came in at 4 having previously been opening,  again it seemed to work as he came in just as the innings needed some impetus and pushing on. He did so to great effect, scoring 34 off 31 balls including one magnificent six straight down the ground. Mr reliable Zaeem finished on 42 not out and was joined at the end by Leon for a little cameo, scoring a quick 8 which included running for 4 singles rather than his usual favoured boundaries, which with reference to the aforementioned high spirits didn't go down well!!!

OG finished on 162 for 4 off our 35 overs which was a decent total on a tricky wicket.

After refreshments gratefully supplied by Riggers at the interval, OG took to the field looking to strike early which they did when Ethan clean bowled their opener for 5 runs. Ethan bowled superbly in his opening 5 over spell and was unlucky to finish it without taking a further wicket. Riggers also opened the bowling and although he struggled to find consistency, he stuck at it and was rewarded with a wicket in his 2nd over.

Next into the attack was our new young star Awais who was superb again taking 2 wickets, both clean bowled in his 5 over spell. Tom vacated his position at wicketkeeper,  swapping with Seth and was rewarded with the vital wicket of Chambers who had batted well for 40, with Leon taking a good low catch at Gully.

Paul came into the attack and despite some wayward deliveries managed to take 2 wickets in his 2 overs, first one caught and bowled, 2nd one caught by Jaz. By this time, Ethan had come back in and basically wrapped up the innings helping himself to a run out sandwiched by 2 more wickets with Jaz again taking the catch to seal victory. It was a great day for Ethan, scoring 46 runs and finishing with bowling figures of 3 wickets for 12 runs off 6.5 overs, well done young man.

A great victory against a decent Tintwistle side, good luck to them for the rest of the season.
