The first XI began their 2023 season with the short trip to local rivals Dinting. Fielding a strong team, the lads were in optimistic mood going into the game. However, it wasn’t meant to be as Dinting took the bragging rights on the day with a comprehensive victory!
After winning the toss skipper Adderley asked the opposition to take first knock on what was a damp, green April wicket. After a couple of early decisions didn’t go our way, Glen Draper let loose and bludgeoned our bowlers to all parts! In what was a powerful display he hit 8 fours and 7 sixes, Draper (107) reached his 100 in style with a maximum over long on. Dinting finishing the innings 267-4.
Far from the perfect start for our bowling attack, with Walsh and overseas Foote the only ones to find a consistent line and length. Definitely some early season rust for our usually consistent bowlers!!
In reply our chase never really got going. Tight bowling from the Dinting bowlers, coupled with the consistent loss of wickets restricted us and saw us fall well short! Eventually being bowled out for 106. Lythgoe (32) and debutant Thorley (16) the only two to reach double figures.
The ones will be looking to bounce back with a far better performance next week as they travel over the hill to New Mills.
