Match Report - Apperknowle

OGCC 1ST XI vs APPERKNOWLE (Home, Sunday 9th May 2021) by Ben Whitehouse

In the 2nd round of the National Village Cup, the 1st team welcomed Apperknowle to Old Glossop on a cloudy day, with a ground saturated from the previous day's rain.

Andy King with help from a number of the lads got the track ready to a good standard considering the circumstances and were all eager to get a game on.

Apperknowle won the toss and elected to field hoping to make the most of the damp track and overhead conditions. Openers Chris Joy and Jehrome came to the crease and set about in a watchful manner as the Aperknowle opening bowlers bowled to a tight line, taking pace off the ball.

A few boundaries followed before Jehrome mistimed a pull shot (which had stuck in the pitch) and floated one up to mid on. In came Jamie Cannon with intent but unfortunately came unstuck early in his innings having been bowled. Jamie came back to the pavilion claiming he can't see the ball anymore and then put his glasses on but still said he was retiring to take up motorcycle riding.

Dane Froggett arrived in the middle looking to banish the memory of the golden duck in his first game. Chris and Dane then built a century partnership with some great hitting and quick singles taking the bowling attack apart.

Chris and Dane fell in quick succession with 81 and 38 respectively.

Macca and Ben Whitehouse came to the crease with 12 overs to go and with freedom to play their shots. They bludgeoned their way to another century partnership against the tiring bowling attack walking off with 69 n.o. for Macca and 48 n.o. for Ben. The innings finishing on 252 for 4.

Buoyed by the batting display and Jamie Cannon in the deep with numerous chants, Paul Littlewood and Ellis Walsh opened up for us. Ellis again bowled with accuracy, building pressure but Paul was the one to tear through the Apperknowle top order taking the first 4 wickets.

Lenny and James Wright stepped up maintaining the pressure with James taking 2 more wickets. Captain Rob Adderley stepped up at the end to mop up the tail claiming 3 quick wickets bowling with pace and accuracy.

Apperknowle finishing on 67 all out.

All in all a convincing win with everyone pitching in.
