June Newsletter

Rain, rain & more rain! In what has felt like a month of none stop rain in May, many games inevitably fell victim. Lets hope June can see a change in the weather as we are all in need of some much needed sunshine.


 

May Highlights

Bar & Patio Refurb’

This month saw a refurbishment to the bar and patio area. The bar has been extended and modernised to keep up with the ever growing demand of our visitors. Whilst the outdoor patio area has also had a makeover with picnic benches, and sponsors signs, added to the wall. All this is a much needed modernisation as we hope to keep our members & visitors comfortable & refreshed whilst taking in some good cricket.

Village Cup

The 1st team progressed to round 3 in the village cup earlier this month with victory over Apperknowle CC. Match report.

On bank holiday weekend we welcomed Elvaston to Manor Park Road in round 3, where we came out comfortable winners. Read our match report here.


Bissenden & Hawke Cups

The 1st team edged a thriller against Newton in the first round of the Bissenden. You can read the full match report here. The 1st team will now play Woodley in the quarter final, game to be played on Saturday 12th June.

The 2nd team also played Newton, however, fell just short against last years beaten finalist. Match report here.


Junior Cricket

Many junior games have fallen foul of the weather in the opening month of the junior season. We hope to get most of these games rearranged at some point as we strive to get the juniors playing, and enjoying their cricket.

 

June Events

Bowling Machine

The club bowling machine finally packed up last month after 24 years of service. A new replacement has been purchased. We all are looking forward to it arriving and putting it to good use in the next few weeks.

Village Cup Regional Final

The 1st’s will play South Wingfield in the final of the Derbyshire section of the Village Cup this coming weekend, June 6th. The weather looks good and the bar is open, what more do you need to get down and enjoy the cricket.


Ladies Soft Ball Festival

Our ladies with be competing in their first soft ball festival on Sunday 6th June at Charlesworth. We wish them good luck and hope they enjoy the day! Thank you to our Women’s sponsor Neighbourhood Gin


June Committee Meeting

The next committee meeting was scheduled for: Tuesday 8th June @ the Club. This has been postponed. A new date has yet to be confirmed.


T20 Cricket

T20 cricket starts this month. The first game is Thursday 10th June against Hollingworth at home. Later in the month (24th June), there is a much anticipated derby game against Dinting.


Euro Events

The Euros begin this month and we are planning to host some events for these. England are in action Sun 13th, Fri 18th & Tues 22nd June. Watch this space for more information.
